"Set building" is collecting a complete series of coins representing, for example, all the different designs of a certain U.S. coin. Set building provides:
•
a systematic path for the collector
• an exciting historical treasure hunt
• possible investment advantages Investors have frequently found that a carefully assembled set of coins is worth substantially more than the total of its individual pieces. Well-compiled sets have also tended to be more liquid than comparable accumulations of random coins. Sets can be collected by type, as suggested above, by series (all the years of a given design from all the mints), by commemorative issues and more. Some popular U.S. gold coin sets are discussed in the following section. U.S. Gold Coin 4-piece Sets (Which can be combined into 8- and 12-piece sets)
